Our all-electric product, uniqueEV™, is currently targeted for Class 4-6 chassis used in walk-in vans, delivery trucks, shuttle buses, refrigerated trucks and service vehicles. The core system features a 225kW Switched Reluctance motor with a 600VDC back bone that can be configured with a number of battery types and sizes. With ranges that vary from 40 to 125miles in most driving cycles, we provide the fleet with the ability to select the right configuration and budget for their operation and duty cycle. uniqueEV™ can be provided as a kit or as a complete chassis for use on existing vehicles or new builds.
Joe has worked in the EV/HEV business for 26 years, he has a BSME from New York Institute of Technology, his tenure in the alternative fuel transportation industry started with the design, development, and integration of a variety of liquid and gaseous fuel systems then evolved in to battery energy & thermal management, Advanced APU systems for HEVs (such as fuel cells, micro turbines) His professional experience includes printed circuit board manufacturing, quality control, industrial engineering and technical writing. Joe has authored many publications on battery energy and thermal management for heavy and light duty electric vehicles. In addition to EV/HEV system integration and R&D, he has worked closely with US-based and off-shore electric utilities along with organizations such as the Department of Energy's Clean Cities on alternative fuel vehicle development, electric drive system development and vehicle demonstration programs. Joe has authored 10 U.S. patents in the field of battery energy/thermal management, energy storage enclosures and advanced propulsion systems.
Josh has 18 years of industry experience in technical and executive management roles at several Electric and Hybrid Electric bus manufacturers. He has supervised more than 10 prototype and commercialized bus programs, including full scope project management of fleet build and deployments with NYCT, LAX World Airports, Denver RTD, and STL (Laval, Québec), as well as prototype vehicle program management both domestically and internationally. Vehicles built under his responsibility have operated more than 5 million miles of revenue service. Previous grant programs include FTA’s Light Weight Fuel Cell Bus program. Josh holds 10 patents on HEV control and energy management. Most recently he led ARBOC’s new ground up bus development on the Spirit of Equess.
Infrastructure and Deployment
Kevin has over 27 years of experience in the energy related business sectors performing management, business ownership and engineering & research duties. His career experience includes 10 years with the Salt River Project (SRP), a major electric utility based in Phoenix, Arizona, and the last 15 plus years in the electric vehicle and the industrial/material handling market segments. Kevin started Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation (ETEC) in 1996. He was a key player in the successful grant application to the Department of Energy that resulted in a $98M grant “The EV Project” to install 12,000 electric vehicle charge stations in order to collect data and better understand the challenges and business strategies surrounding electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Kevin holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University.
Electro- Mechanical Engineer
Austin Mabrey is an Electro-Mechanical Engineer at UES, he received a B.S in Mechanical Engineering in 2017 from The University of Texas at Austin. Austin became an intern with UES during his undergraduate studies in the fall of 2016 and has since greatly assisted in the design and build of numerous electric and hybrid electric conversion packages for medium duty delivery vehicles. Austin has an intuitive sense for mechanical systems which sprouted from a continued childhood passion of rebuilding vintage cars and motorcycles. Austin took his passion and turned it into a career; he pushes himself beyond the mechanical systems and has spearheaded electrical tasks such as integrating OEM wiring harnesses with the newly developed vehicle system’s harness. Austin is an integral, hands-on member, of the UES product development team; he leads prototypes assembly in the shop, creates the needed CAD and written documentation for manufacturing and deployment, and provides valuable feedback to the team which he helps incorporate into the vehicle designs.
Manufacturing and Technology Committee Chair
Multi-disciplinary Corporate Executive with 13 currently issued patents covering inverter, motion control and other electrical, mechanical, software technologies. Jim’s prior positions include President of Anorad, the global Precision Motion Control division of Rockwell Automation with engineering and manufacturing facilities in the US, Europe, the Middle East and China. Anorad focused on the design and manufacture of robotic process, metrology and automation tools for the Semiconductor and Photovoltaic industries. Jim was also VP and General Manager of Aeroflex Laboratories, optics and motion technologies for Aerospace and Military, Assistant VP at Stony Brook University creating a LEED Platinum Advanced Energy Center with a research and technology deployment focus on Transmission, Distribution, Smart Grid testing and systems including the daily technical and business advisement of many energy start-up companies, CTO of Bison Technologies providing management, PV systems optimization and technical consultation for many diverse utility scale solar projects. Jim has been the system architect, owners engineer or senior technical advisor on over 100 utility scale PV projects ranging up to many hundreds of MW’s. Jim is an active member in the IEEE and other professional groups relating to energy generation, conversion and transmission. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s of Science degree and has been a guest lecturer in many engineering and management disciplines.
Roger brings over 45 years of experience specializing in business formation, acquisition and turnaround management, including extensive experience in the alternative energy sector. Most recently, he served as CEO of a privately owned, diversified energy developer specializing in wind, solar and wind services. Prior to that he served as CEO of Odyne Corporation, a publicly listed developer and manufacturer of advanced plug-in hybrid powertrains for class 6,7 and 8 buses and trucks. As part of the team of founders, he was a driving force in taking the company public in October of 2006. Roger's expertise ranges from off-shore manufacturing to space-age systems deployment, technology, energy (both conventional and "green"), for the public, private and military sectors. Roger is currently responsible for developing strategic vendor relationships and financial partnerships for UES.
Jose Albert Guadalupe, director of U.S. operations for Atlantic Bridge Holdings (ABH), a subsidiary of SSLootah. Under Jose’s mentorship, ABH has been the lead investor in UES. Jose has been a critical part of the UES investment team and has been developing a number of opportunities for our company not only for finance, but also for facilities, manufacturing and procurement. He is also developing future, long term opportunities for UES’s products in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA).
Mike is part of the Atlantic Bridge Holdings (ABH) Team and is responsible for day to day interface with UES and its operations. He has extensive experience in global business development, military, maritime security, crisis management, strategic planning, training and emergency preparedness. This includes 23 years as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Coast Guard (USCG) acting in multiple capacities including Sector Senior Reserve Officer, NORTHCOM Branch Chief in a Joint Department of Defense Transportation Command, Maritime Port Security Officer, ICS Planning Section Chief, Intelligence Officer, Law Enforcement Officer, Homeland Security Coordinator and Readiness Planner. Mike has also had 10 years of experience managing programs, delivering services, and building safety, security and training models in the United States and overseas. After selling SPP, he founded MJG Global, a specialized global security company that provides superb planning, training and operational services for corporate and government clients worldwide.
UPS to Work with Unique Electric Solutions to Bring Electric Vehicle Production to the Bronx Supports Governor Cuomo’s Clean Energy Goals to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions 40 Percent by 2030
UPS (NYSE: UPS) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today announced that new technology will be developed to convert UPS package delivery vehicles from diesel to electric. UPS and Unique Electric Solutions LLC (UES LLC) will design, build, test and make the conversions. The project supports Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s aggressive goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2030 by replacing diesel vehicles with clean technology.
“Public-private partnerships help push innovation forward and transform industries,” said Carlton Rose, President, global fleet maintenance and engineering, UPS. “This program will help UPS develop and deploy electric delivery trucks faster and more affordably. Because they are cleaner and quieter, electric vehicles are ideal for dense urban environments like New York City and are a critical part of our strategy for the future.”
NYSERDA is providing $500,000 in funding to develop and test the conversion system. If successful, the Bronx-based project is expected to bring a production version of the converted truck to the streets of New York City by Spring 2018. In addition to producing a new, cost-effective all-electric conversion kit, the project will deliver a blueprint for converting up to three UPS vehicles a day. This could lead to the conversion of up to 1,500 UPS delivery trucks, which is about 66% of UPS’s NYC fleet, operating in New York City by 2022.

The conversions will be based on unique electric vehicle technology developed by Unique Electric Solutions. The core system features a 225kW Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) with a high voltage back bone optimized for the duty cycle of UPS delivery trucks. SRMs are simpler, cheaper and better suited for electric vehicles over conventional induction motors and do not rely on the use of magnets made from imported rare earth metals like permanent magnet motors do. Overall, the UES SRM propulsion system provides more miles per battery charge, reducing charging times and increasing energy efficiency up to 20%.
This project is part of UPS’s commitment to helping cities and states around the world reduce carbon and other tailpipe emissions as urban areas and e-commerce grow. UPS operates more than 770 electric or hybrid electric vehicles in urban settings around the world. They are part of a fleet of more than 8,500 alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles worldwide. UPS recently set a goal that by 2020 one in four vehicles purchased annually will use alternative fuels or advanced technology.
